That One Thing You Said: an exhibit of visual poetry

April 16, 2015

This exhibit explores language as an agent in pivotal moments, whether interpersonally, socially or globally. Five visual poets (Jordan Abel, Dina Del Bucchia, Lindsay Cahill, Helen Hajnoczky, and Eric Schmaltz) create works that respond to this concept. The exhibit hopes to blur the distinction between visual poetry and visual art by engaging with progressive, reactionary and confessional texts.

Spoken Word Jamboree

The Jamboree kicks off Hullabaloo, the youth spoken word section of the festival with feature Morgan Purvis, Victoria’s former Youth Poet Laureate. All teams will be invited to perform a one-minute intro poem to tell us more about themselves and their school. You don’t need to be on a participating team to attend. Don’t be shy. Come on down and help us start this festival right!

Hullabaloo Team Bouts: Day One

Every team in Hullabaloo will perform in one bout this night, either the first or second slate of prelims. The bout draw, determining the time for each school’s bout, will be conducted before the tournament begins. All teams are encouraged to attend the entire evening.

Hullabaloo Underground Indies

Adventures in Poetryland

Thursdays Writing Collective

Thursdays Writing Collective is comprised of 150 activists, academics, slam poets, novelists and storytellers who explore issues of self-determination through creative writing. The Collective holds free, drop-in writing sessions in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside at Carnegie Community Centre. Founded in 2008 by Elee Kraljii Gardiner, the Collective has published six chapbooks.
